Summer is the season of burgers. Warmer weather, in general, makes me crave a juicy burger. Trader Joe's makes it easy with their fresh 96/4 burgers that are already made into quarter pound patties. The dirty work is done, leaving me to cook and enjoy :).
Lately I have been on a lettuce wrap fiasco. Tacos in a lettuce wrap, chicken sausages in a lettuce wrap, burgers in lettuce wraps, the list goes on. They are crunchy and not over-filling like wraps and buns. They might be a little hard to keep together while eating, but they won't leave you feeling like a lead weight after you are done devouring. It's a sacrifice that I am willing to make.
Today I decided to cook something a little different to go with my burger. Fries? No. Green beans. Yes. Sadly green beans are not fries..but they are better than fries when you cook them the right way. I decided to wing it and make salt and vinegar crispy green beans. Burgers and salt & vinegar chips go hand-in-hand with my taste buds so this is my alternative. Frozen or fresh green beans work fine.
I also used a toaster oven to make these because it's easier than using the oven. Set to 425 degrees. While the oven is warming up for a few minutes, mix 1 tbsp of white vinegar, 1 tbsp olive oil, a dash of salt and pepper together and then toss around on the green beans!
While the green beans are cooking for about 20 minutes, it's time to prepare the burger! I realized that I was out of BBQ sauce and red onions, tear tear. I was looking forward to a BBQ burger with bacon, but you can't always get what you want. Instead, I cooked up some yellow onions to use as a topping. For the lettuce wrap, I use romaine lettuce. It is thicker than iceberg lettuce and makes for a better bun!
Que the onions.
Let's not forget about the star of this dinner, the burger! (Obviously not the raw one pictured below..)
I used to hate burgers. I thought that they were greasy, flavorless, and gross. I was instantly addicted once I was introduced to 96/4 burgers. I can still remember the day when my mom cooked up a plate full of these delicious babies. Probably had 2 of them. Now, I cannot get enough of burgers. These are low in fat, high in protein and filling. The best treat to have after a gym workout or a long day in general. I even order burgers when I go out to eat. Except without a bun..yes call me weird. Also without cheese...... so now I'm even weirder. I eat burgers with a fork and knife and dip them in ketchup at restaurants. This is why I eat so many lettuce buns. Something needs to encapsulate my delicious burgers!
Burger done. Smothered in Annie's organic ketchup. Time to check on the crispy green beans.
Perfect, crispy salt and vinegar green beans. Step aside 'Lays salt and vinegar chips', you have some competition. I guess these are kind of like french fries, you can pick them up and eat them with your fingers. Best way to get the satisfaction of eating crunchy and salty treats without the deep frier.
My wrap was not cooperating with me today, but I managed to keep it together during the entirety of its existence. I am laughing to myself right now because the more I look at this meal, the more I realize how ugly it is. Little do you people know how good it tasted..so I guess you will just have to try for yourself. Now you don't have to feel guilty about eating burgers and 'fries'.
